Aluminum Metal Roofing Lasts a Lifetime…and Beyond

Aluminum metal roofing is the perfect alternative for virtually any roof where steel or other materials are being considered. Its natural properties, lightweight materials, strength, and longevity, makes aluminum a very desirable roofing material. These qualities make aluminum the number one metal of the aerospace industry, so it only makes sense for these metal roofing materials to be equally popular in the Wisconsin metal roofing industry. Metal Roofing Systems installs aluminum metal roofing in Madison, Milwaukee, Stoughton, Waunakee, Racine and other towns throughout southern Wisconsin

Because aluminum metal roofs are very lightweight, consumers can re-roof over asphalt shingle roofing on their home, and reduce the weight on their housing structure. Unlike heavy tile and slate roofing, sheet metal roofing does not require structural reinforcement.

Aluminum Roofing and Recycled Metal

Aluminum roof panels also have a high content of recycled materials, and as such are completely recyclable, making them environmentally friendly. In fact, they are the most environmentally friendly roof you can buy. They can be made of up to 98% recycled aluminum. And if ever removed, they do not end up in a landfill like asphalt roofing, but are simply recycled.

Aluminum shingles will not rust, rot, tear, or become infested by bugs or mold. These unique characteristics make aluminum metal roofing the preferred material in salt spray costal environments.

Metal Roofing Systems’ Aluminium Metal Roofs are Environmentally Friendly

Aluminum Metal Roofing – A Variety of Styles to Match Your Architecture

These aluminum shingles are now being made to resemble cedar shakes, slate and clay tiles. Aluminum shingles are simply made by taking a sheet of aluminum and stamping the desired pattern (shake, tile, slate) onto the metal. A Kynar finish is applied to each shingle and the finish is baked to ensure color retention and shingle protection. There are a variety of patterns and colors available to match contemporary and classic styles.

Aluminum metal roofing systems are long-lasting, fire resistant, energy efficient and great for insulating. According to surveys conducted by leading aluminum roofing manufacturers, home owners can expect their heating and cooling costs to decrease by about 20 percent each year. And they can expect their aluminum metal roofing to last their entire lifetime…and beyond. Permanent metal roofs are the present — and the future — in the roofing industry.

The Value of Aluminum Shake Roofing

Aluminum shake roofing has benefits that make it a popular choice for homeowners. Though made of aluminum, shake roofs feature the aesthetic texture of old-world, hand-split cedar. And, despite its rustic appearance, shake roofing offers extreme energy efficiency with PPG Industries Kynar 500® reflective pigmentation technology that reflects up to 70% of the sun’s energy and reduces cooling costs up to 20%.

Our Country Manor Shake from Metal Roofing Systems Is an Investment-Grade Metal Roof that Provides Increased Value to Your home.

Environmental Benefits of Aluminum Shake Roofing

Metal shake roofing also provides premium protection for the environment. According to the Bureau of Cedar Shakes and Shingles, three full-grown trees are destroyed for the construction of an average real cedar roof. Another study has shown that composite asphalt shingles, buried in landfills, will take over 300 years to decompose. Shake shingle roofs are composed of up to 98% post-consumer recycled metals and they are completely recyclable.

Unlike real wood shakes and shingles, aluminum shake roofing materials do not split, dry rot or invite insects. Unlike asphalt and fiberglass composition shingles, metal shake roofs will not curl, dry out, lift or play host to mildew, moss or fungus. And unlike coated steel, an aluminum shake roof will not rust…instead, it will protect and last year — after year — after year.

Our Aluminum Shake Roofing Is Eco Friendly and Recyclable

Invest in Your Home with Aluminum Shake Roofing

Lightweight and fire-resistant, shake style aluminum shingles lock together on all sides to form a weather tight seal on your home for unbeatable wind resistance and protection. These roofs can withstand winds of up to 120 mph and will last a lifetime. It’s an investment in the aesthetic and financial value of your home; and your family, friends, and even neighbors will admire this lasting investment in your home’s beauty and value.

Steps for Metal Roof Repair or Restoration

Finding the leak can be the most challenging part of the metal roof leak repair. Once you find the source of the leakage, you can use metal roof repair products to fix the leak easily. Here are some simple steps to metal roof restoration or repair:

STEP 1: Clean Area

Remove dirt from the area to be patched. Carefully scrape off any flaking or loose roof coating with a flexible putty knife.

STEP 2: Apply Butyl Tape

Put one- or two-inch wide strips of butyl tape around the perimeter of area to be patched.

Call Us Throughout Southern Wisconsin at: 1-866-947-6382

STEP 3: Cut & Cover

Cut a patch out of galvanized metal that will overlap the hole by two to three inches on all sides. Place on top of the butyl tape.

STEP 4: Insert Screws

Pre-drill holes in the galvanized metal (in both the patch, and the roof). Using metal screws, screw through the new patch, butyl tape and existing roof metal. Do not screw into trusses. Make sure the patch is flush with the surface. Start by placing the screws every two inches. If not it is not tight, put a screw every one inch.

STEP 5: Seal

Seal around the edges of the patch and the screws with caulk. When that dries, cover with a roof coating.

Your hole is now patched securely. Your roof should be in great shape and not needing any further metal roofing repair any time soon.

Metal Roof Cost Per Square Foot

Friday, January 21st, 2011

Calculating Metal Roof Cost Per Square Foot

Costs Depend Upon the Materials and Your Architecture

Building materials are usually sold by the “square” i.e., enough to cover 100 square feet. Professional installers calculate the total area plus the roof pitch, when applicable, to obtain the metal roof cost per square foot. For example, a total roof area of 6,500 sq ft, having a moderate roof pitch of 8 inches rise for every 12 inches run costs somewhere around $6.50 per square foot. The metal roofing cost per square foot also includes installation, labor, and all the materials needed to put up the whole system. The total contract value of the base roofing materials for that particular job would then be around $29,250, but the roof will probably not have to be replaced in your lifetime, which negates the upfront cost, actually saving money over the long run.

Contact Metal Roofing Systems for a Price Quote for a New Metal Roof

Typical Metal Roofing Costs

Because of the slope, a roof generally has a larger square footage than the house it sits on — a 1,500-square-foot home could have a 2,100-square-foot roof. Interlocking aluminum shingles start around $6.50 to $9.00 per square foot for labor and materials, or $11,900 – $19,800 for a typical ranch-style home. Aluminum, standing seam, metal roof costs per square foot (panels) start around $9 to $11 a square foot, or $15,300 to $24,200 for a basic ranch-style home; costs can go up to $12 to $15 a square foot or more for complicated installation projects. These metal roofing prices could go higher depending on whether the residence is a two or three story home or townhouse; the location; the type of materials being removed and the difficulty of the removal project.

Additional Factors Affecting Metal Roofing Prices

One of the factors that affect the price of a metal roof is the projected lifespan. While the average cost of metal roofing is more expensive than other roofing materials, a metal roof can give you a bigger chunk of savings because the materials used in metal roofing have longer lifespan compared to other roofing materials. For example, asphalt shingle roofs can last around 15 to 30 years (depending on environmental conditions) while metal roofs, such as those made of aluminum or copper, have a lifespan of 50 to 100 years.

The grade of the roofing materials (and the style) is also another factor that determines the price of the metal roofing. Metal roofing comes in different grades depending on the material it is made of. All roofing materials are coated with a certain type of alloy or finishing to make it corrosion-resistant; and the thickness of the coating used determines the grade of the metal roofing. Thicker coatings prolong the lifespan of the roof and come at a higher price, but it is worth it.

The Importance of Metal Roof Coating

There are many different types of metal roof coating products used to coat metal roof panels such as anti-rust, waterproofing, and heat reflective roof coating systems. In addition, they can be made of various materials, for instance: ceramic coating and nanotechnology coating materials.  Metal Roofing Systems installs roofing systems, metal panels and metal shingle systems that are heat reflective in Milwaukee, Madison, Stoughton, Waunakee, Racine, and throughout Southern Wisconsin.

Ceramic Coatings

Ceramic coatings are the most popular heat reflective metal roof coatings applied on metal sheet roofs worldwide. Most ceramic coatings are made from regular paint, to which ceramic beads are mixed as an additive. Although they reflect on average 75% to 85% of solar radiation, their application is mostly limited to industrial and commercial buildings.

View Our Photo Gallery for Options on Metal Roofing Systems

Nanotechnology Coatings

Nanotechnology solar reflective coatings are efficient, heat-reflective coatings that can be applied as aluminum roofing coatings today. They consist of radiant barriers whose performance increases exponentially with the surface’s heat, which makes them perfect for application on metal sheet roofs, particularly during manufacturing. The average heat load is reduced by 30% typically, which instantly makes the home or building more energy-efficient and caps heat build-up.

Roof coatings on metal roofs in industrial areas with lots of dust will remain clean longer and will be less sensitive to acids from manufacturing plants. In coastal areas, these metal roof coatings protect metal sheet roofs from marine salt. On residential roofs, metal roof coating products protect residential and flat commercial metal roofs from damage caused by the weather elements of heat, cold, rain, snow, wind and ice.

Galvalume Metal Roofing

Wednesday, January 19th, 2011

The Excellent Properties of Galvalume® Metal Roofing

The new technology of Galvalume® metal roofing utilizes the product Galvalume®, which is 55% aluminum – 45% zinc alloy coated steel. For residential roofs, factory pre-painted Galvalume® metal roof sheets are generally used to impart color and durability, although some architects and homeowners use bare galvalume metal roofing because they like the look of its bright metallic surface. It can be put on as a new roof or retrofitted over old roofs.

Beautiful Galvalume® Metal Roofs Are Available at Metal Roofing Systems!

Why Is Galvalume® a Good Material for Roofing?

Galvalume® metal roof shingles are an ideal material for roofing because of their extraordinary, outdoor corrosion resistance, and resulting long life. The metal roofing can be readily roll-formed into a variety of panels, as well as formed and stamped into tile and shingle facsimiles. Most importantly, it can be used in modern day steel roof designs that are strong, yet lightweight. Moreover, unlike conventional non-metallic roof systems, Galvalume® sheet roofs will not crack and peel when subjected to the sun and weather.

How Does Galvalume® Roofing Compare with Galvanized Roofing?

Galvalume® metal roofs have been successfully used in roofing applications for more than 25 years; it has been evaluated in outdoor R&D tests for well over 30 years. Based on these tests, in which corrosion weight losses were measured and compared with galvanized metal roofing, the Galvalume® sheet is projected to outlast the galvanized sheet (with an equivalent coating thickness) in various atmospheric conditions by up to nine times (9X’s). These roofs are projected to last 30 to 40 years before requiring major maintenance.

Learn How to Put on Your Own Galvalume® Metal Roof with Help from Our DIY Program

What is the Reflectivity of Galvalume® Metal Roofing?

The Galvalume® metal roof has good heat and sunlight reflectivity. During the summer, it makes homes cooler by efficiently reflecting away sunlight and reducing the amount of heat transmitted into the home. Likewise, it makes homes warmer in the winter by reflecting inside heat from the underside of the roof back into the home. This good thermal reflectivity translates into energy savings for the homeowner by reducing cooling costs in the summer and heating costs in the winter.
